OK, I got the strangest spam message today. It was someone asking if I performed liposuction, and claiming to want to book a consultation for their mother. I don't really understand what their scam is. Are they actually hoping to get responses from people who do perform liposuction? I can't imagine that they'd get very many responses, as a percentage of the number of messages they send out. But I guess sending spam is cheap. Or are they hoping to verify active email addresses from people responding and saying that they don't perform liposuction? It just seems like a really strange spam message to send.

Election day in Ontario today. Unfortunately, it looks like we're going to be stuck with the same government, or even a slightly worse version (stronger majority).

If you hear that encryption should be undermined, remember these two facts of the pro encryption side:

✅ 1. Encryption can't be outlawed

✅ 2. Backdoors for the good guys only are impossible

If the rag-tag Matrix ecosystem can do it, it doesn’t seem unreasonable to think that a $600B company like Meta can figure it out too...

I still have concerns with #Matrix and #privacy,

In this case #WhatsApp would provide self-destructing messages that
@matrix doesn't support unless you count that is apparently experimental and shouldn't be used.

Sure there is a ticket since 2016, but not much activity that I can publicly see

Introducing! 🎉

A few days ago, @kev asked the community for help maintaining his side-project, This got me thinking.

There are loads of maintainers out there feeling burnt out, but they can't abandon their project since people are depending on the project to be maintained.

In an effort to combat this, I built a website that lists projects looking for new maintainers. It's still quite empty and has some rough edges, so any feedback is very welcome.

Sorry, I have no idea how looking good is defined. If you didn't like the looks before, it didn't change much unless you enable the bubble layout, so you probably still won't like it. mastodon (AP)

I'll only be sarcastically interested in what Nextcloud has to say about "self-hosting for individuals", considering they imo have pivoted toward enterprise users in recent years. I would prefer to hear from an (f)easily maintained, agile web/cal/cardDAV solution over those guys.

Today I have played 3 hours with my pen&paper group over a native #FluffyChat video call. The connection was super stable all the time. It will be coming as a opt-in experimental feature in the next release 🤗

FSFE haven't changed the name of the organization. What did they actually change, aside from virtue signaling?
clacke: seeking 🇸🇪🇭🇰💙💛 friendica (via ActivityPub)
They are still a European foundation that promotes software freedom. Changing a name is not a minor thing. They are not collaborating with the FSF.
This entry was edited (1 year ago)
Henry Edward Hardy mastodon (AP)
"Software Freedom" In other words, FSFE are still promoting RMS self-aggrandizing, "'trust us with your copyrights, you can trust us, honest,' charismatic, authoritarian, entitled, misogynist, blaming rape victims, incel vision."

As someone who was briefly a volunteer sysadmin at the FSF office in Boston, I can say my impression was of a top-down, authoritarian, money and fundraising-driven organization devoted to a cult of personality of an odious person.

So done with that.
This entry was edited (1 year ago)
Henry Edward Hardy mastodon (AP)
An ad hominem attack would be of the form of "FSF's statement is invalid because they are associated with RMS"

But I wasn't refuting any argument by FSF. I just asked why they are still affiliating with RMS. Perhaps before you use impressive sounding Latin words you might make sure you understand what they mean? Just a suggestion.

I am basing my opinion of what RMS said condoning and excusing alleged child rape from the actual transcripts, and the MIT report.
clacke: seeking 🇸🇪🇭🇰💙💛 friendica (via ActivityPub)
The FSFE is not the FSF.

> in the current situation we see ourselves unable to collaborate both with the FSF and any other organisation in which Richard Stallman has a leading position

@Bubu I don’t think that’s true. I heard a talk pimping #Matrix at #FOSDEM years back, and I remember because I was a bit repulsed that a pro- #Cloudflare org was getting talking time there. It was the same year that #DuckDuckGo abused a time slot to advertise their #Microsoft-driven service.
